I think podcasts could translate well into a streaming radio format. If you'd like to read why, click here and I'll expand upon the concept.

I think it would be interesting to set up some traditional radio-style 'block' programming with people's podcasts, and put them online via streaming radio, open up a test station - and see what happens.

I also think that letting people sample podcasts in this format will drive users back to the original podcast.

Broadcast your podcast is an experiment in cross-pollination - starting November 15th, 2006, I'll take people's podcast submissions for one month.

Once the call for submissions is over, I will play your podcasts on a streaming radio station - along with short 15 and 30 second "bumper" descriptions provided by the you, the podcaster - to help drive listeners back to your podcast's site of origin.
Right now I'm waiting to see what shows up, but I'm working with some very basic 'blocks' of programming styles -

tech & business-related - all things technology and/or business and/or money-related

talking heads with opinions - 'people sitting down with a microphone and talking to each other'-style podcasts

gaming, sports and rec. - all gaming, competition, sporting and outdoors-related programming

the towers of babel - 'learning, practicing, and conversing in foreign languages' podcasts

tastemakers - podcasts from people who weed through stacks and pick the best of the best of their particular genre of interest

eating, drinking and podcasting - all food-related and cooking podcasts

But these certainly aren't set in stone. Again, I'm waiting to see what shows up.
Would you like to broadcast your podcast? All you have to do is sign up here, and I'll send you some more information and upload instructions.
Q: What happens to my podcast(s) after the 3 month trial period?
A: We delete it. You can always submit more, after the first round.

Q: Will my podcast be available for download from your site?
A: No. That's why we ask you also submit a "you are listening to..."-style 'bumper' to be played with your podcast - to direct people back to your own site.

Q: How do I know when my podcast will be played?
A: When we nail down the final schedule, we'll send you an email heads-up. Our schedule will also appear here, on this website, once we have it worked out.

Q: Are you making money on this somehow?
A: No. I'm actually losing a little bit, since I'm pre-paying for the bandwidth, but I'm not running ads or making any sort of profit on this whatsoever. This is purely a proof-of-concept experiment.

Q: Who/what is Reagent Radio?
A: Reagent Radio is the testbed for the group of radio/code geeks I'm working with (see RMN) - we've written a plug-in that lets us schedule the shows and track how many people are listening at any one time, so we've basically got these two huge streaming audio setups we get to play with.

Q: I want to participate! How do I get you my podcasts and promos?
A: Sign up here - I'll send you an email with FTP instructions.
